Overview of the Position

Job Summary

This role involves working as a primary clinical resource person for all respiratory care modalities, exercising considerable independent clinical judgment in the respiratory care of patients, and serving as a technical resource person to physicians and the hospital staff.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient information, including history, lab data, radiologic studies, progress notes, respiratory and cardiovascular monitoring data, and performs assessment/data collection in a systematic manner.
  • Interprets data to formulate goal-directed plans of care and determines requirements for treatment, including type and duration of therapy, precautions to be observed, equipment required, medication, and dosages.
  • Performs diagnostic modalities, including ABG sampling and analysis, co-oximetry, spirometry, pressure-volume and flow-volume loops, cuff pressure, sputum induction, EKGs, Holter monitors, pulmonary function, and sleep diagnostic tests.
  • Orders and stocks departmental supplies.
  • Initiates, conducts, and modifies prescribed therapeutic or diagnostic procedures, including operating medical equipment, checking alarms, observing safety and security procedures, explaining planned therapy to patients, and conducting therapeutic procedures to maintain a patent airway.

Requirements

  • At least three (3) years regular experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Graduate from a respiratory care education program supported by CoARC or accredited by CAAHEP, with 62 semester hours of college credit, including a background in the basic sciences.
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in California.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
