We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Intelligent Transportation Systems Engineer to join our team at the Maryland Department of Transportation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing engineering plans, specifications, and estimates for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Electrical scopes. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the accuracy, adequacy, and compliance of our projects with Federal, State, and Local design regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise a team of engineers in the planning, design, coordination, and implementation of ITS programs, including toll systems, security systems, fiber optic cabling, tunnel control systems, communications, incident detection systems, automatic traffic counters, dynamic message signs, and control systems for movable bridges, fiber optic networks, and two-way radio systems.
- Assist the ITS Manager in identifying projects for inclusion in the ITS Program.
- Write engineering specifications and assign work to team members.
- Develop and maintain task/project schedules and track and manage budgets for ITS projects.
- Estimate quantities and costs of materials, equipment, and labor.
- Prepare engineering reports and coordinate with other MDTA disciplines.
- Communicate answers to contractors regarding Request for Information (RFI).
- Manage small and less complex projects from beginning to completion.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Seven years of experience in professional engineering, with two years of experience in Intelligent Transportation System design and project management.
