Job Summary

The Residential Instructor is a vital member of our team at Alternative Services-Connecticut Inc, responsible for providing exceptional care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role requires a unique blend of compassion, patience, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consumer Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of consumers at all times, monitoring their behavior and implementing programs to promote positive outcomes.
  • Program Operations: Oversee the daily aspects of consumer supervision, including documentation, reporting, and communication with stakeholders.
  • Medication Administration: Distribute medications according to each consumer's schedule and guidelines, ensuring accurate and timely administration.
  • Activity Planning: Organize and implement activities and programs to promote consumer engagement, socialization, and personal growth.
  • Counseling and Support: Provide counseling and reinforcement to consumers to address issues, promote progress, and foster positive relationships.
  • Transportation and Safety: Safely transport consumers to community activities, day programs, and social events, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Emergency Procedures: Know and follow emergency home procedures for fire, hurricanes, power outages, accidents, or other serious incidents affecting residents.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Accurately document consumer activities, incidents, and progress, reporting to management and stakeholders as required.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, management, and external agencies to ensure seamless communication and effective service delivery.
  • Professional Development: Participate in in-service training, seminars, and other opportunities for professional growth and development, staying up-to-date with best practices and industry standards.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnosis preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of experience in a related field; experience may be substituted with education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Certifications: Valid driver's license, CPR, First Aid, PMT, and DDS State Medication Administration certifications required.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to lift up to 75 pounds, and physical intervention skills required.
Accountability

The Residential Instructor is directly accountable to the Residential Manager or designated supervisor. This role requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
