Job Summary

The Residential Instructor is a critical member of our team at Alternative Services-Connecticut Inc, responsible for providing exceptional care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consumer Supervision: Ensure the daily well-being and safety of consumers, monitoring their behavior and implementing management programs as needed.
  • Documentation: Accurately document all shift activities, incidents, and consumer progress in a timely manner.
  • Reporting: Provide programmatic and statistical reports as required, maintaining a professional attitude and adhering to Agency policies and procedures.
  • Home Maintenance: Maintain the safety, appearance, and cleanliness of the home, conducting regular sanitation and safety inspections.
  • Medication Administration: Distribute medications according to each consumer's schedule and Agency policies, ensuring compliance with DDS Medication Certification guidelines.
  • Programming and Activities: Organize and supervise activities, programs, and outings for consumers, promoting a fun, safe, and healthy environment.
  • Counseling and Support: Provide counseling and reinforcement to assigned consumers, addressing issues of progress, problems, and interests.
  • Transportation and Safety: Safely transport consumers to community activities, day programs, and social events, adhering to emergency home procedures.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Maintain open communication with guardians, parents, and other stakeholders, working together to implement normalization and person-centered planning principles.
  • Accountability and Reporting: Report and respond to any violation of individuals' rights, participating in investigations as directed by the Executive Director or designee.
Requirements
  • Education: Minimum possession of a High School Diploma or a G.E.D.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnosis, with the ability to substitute education for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Certifications: Valid driver's license, ability to be insured by our insurance company, and certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT, and DDS State Medication Administration.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, transfer, and physically intervene with individuals as required.
Accountability

The Residential Instructor is directly accountable to the Residential Manager or designated substitute, ensuring adherence to Agency policies and procedures.
