The Associate Director, Business Unit Communications and Public Affairs, Rheumatology is responsible for leading strategy and execution of external communications programs that advance AbbVie's U.S. Rheumatology portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop Strategic Public Affairs Programs: Develops strategic, high-impact public affairs programs to advance business objectives with emphasis on competitive differentiation, analytics, and the external environment.
- Secure Stakeholder Buy-In: Secures timely buy-in and input from functional and franchise leaders on Public Affairs programs, including securing budget to effectively execute programs.
- Implement Tactical Programs: Oversees and implements tactical program elements, ensuring deliverables are met on time and on budget across paid, earned, shared, and owned channels.
- Communications Counselor: Serves as communications counselor to franchise leadership, ensuring programs are creatively developed and executed with the external environment in mind.
- Data Communications: Leads data communications at U.S. medical congresses to differentiate AbbVie's on-market rheumatology brands and to elevate the pipeline among key external stakeholders.
- Representative: Represents Business Unit Communications and Public Affairs on Integrated Brand Teams and proactively contributes on business decisions with cross-functional business partners.
- Patient Advocacy: Partners with patient and professional advocacy organizations to advance the understanding of rheumatic conditions.
- Media Relations: Demonstrates strong understanding of U.S. media environment and has advanced media relations experience and skills to ensure effective engagement with reporters.
- Spokesperson: Serve as spokesperson for designated U.S. rheumatology brands.
- Reputation Management: Manages issues that affect the business overall by proactively anticipating and mitigating reputational risk to AbbVie and immunology brands, and works with Director to influence decisions on key business issues.
- Agency Partner Management: Drives agency partner performance and ensures effective use of AbbVie resources.
- Compliance: Ensures programs fall within budget parameters and all administrative paperwork is completed in an appropriate manner (invoice logging, purchase orders, statements of work, etc.).
- Review Process: Ensures compliance by managing review process for external communications materials (press releases, statements, response documents, fact sheets, etc.).
- Communication: Keeps appropriate internal and external partners apprised of status, timelines, and directional shifts to ensure smooth review process and to meet corporate deadlines.
- Best Practices: Consistently shares best practices and offers new ideas and thinking to raise the bar for the Global Therapeutics Communications and Public Affairs organization.
