Eligibility and Travel Requirements

This is a full-time internship that requires five days on-site at the Dawn Foods Louisville Distribution Center. You will also participate in mandatory onboarding sessions at the Corporate Jackson office from May 19-22 and final presentations from August 6-8.

What It Takes to Be an Intern at Dawn Foods

  • Pursuing a Supply Chain/Logistics or Business bachelor's degree and having completed the sophomore year with an interest in Logistics.
  • Current academic status must reflect good performance in relation to institutional academic standards.
  • Strong interest in logistics, warehousing, or transportation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and basic functions such as pivot tables.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Adaptability and willingness to embrace feedback and learn from it.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Your Role as an Intern

  • Conduct research on assigned topics and present findings to the team.
  • Collaborate with team members to brainstorm ideas and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
  • Shadow and learn from experienced professionals in your field of interest.
  • Actively seek opportunities to learn and develop new skills relevant to your career goals.
  • Take initiative to suggest process improvements and contribute innovative ideas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interview stakeholders to understand warehouse and delivery operational processes.
  • Evaluate preferred work methods for receiving, put-away, selection, loading, and delivery.
  • Offer recommendations for improvement.
  • Contribute to achieving higher quality results through collaboration with warehouse, delivery, and inventory control teams.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Dawn's product life cycle.
  • Participate in material variance procedures (damages, cycle counts, and expired product).
  • Understand the complexities and intricacies of Dawn's Outbound operations, including international export business.

Required to use motor coordination with arm, hand, finger, and leg dexterity. Required to exert physical effort in handling objects up to 50 pounds. The normal setting for this job will be a combination of manufacturing laboratory and production floor environment. Must be able to tolerate potential allergens: Wheat/Gluten, Soy, Milk, and Egg. All PPE requirements are to be worn while inside the Plant (hairnets/safety boots/smock must be worn). The level of physical effort may vary from site to site and in some cases be greater or lesser than documented here.

Compensation

$25/hour for Undergraduate students and $27/hour for Graduate students.
