Job Summary

As a Support Staff for Special Education, you will provide assistance with classroom organization, management, and presentation/development of classroom instruction. You will work under general supervision of the instructional staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the teacher in preparing educational materials for students.
  • Work individually with students and/or in small groups to help reinforce learning objectives.
  • Assist with daily routines, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, and grading quizzes as assigned.
  • Participate in lunchroom, recess, hall-monitoring, and bus duties.
  • Assist with preparing and maintaining bulletin boards and other learning centers areas for instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
Requirements

Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Must pass the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment with a minimum score of 250 within 1 year from Date of Hire in lieu of the GACE, two (2) years (60 semester hours) of college coursework above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution is acceptable

Certification/Licensure
Must be able to obtain Georgia PSC Paraprofessional Certificate within 1 year from Date of Hire;

Experience
  • 0 - 1 year experience required
  • Classroom experience and/or proven ability to work with children preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • Classroom experience and/or proven ability to work with children preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with students and adults
  • Excellent organizational skills and flexibility
  • If working as a Paraprofessional in the Dual Immersion program, should exhibit proficiency in spoken and written language of instruction
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions quickly and accurately
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information

  • Ability to push or pull a maximum of 50 pounds
  • May require lifting, bending kneeling, reaching, stooping or crouching
