Foundation Models Research Engineer

Tesla is on the lookout for outstanding software engineers to contribute to the development of AI's foundation models. You will collaborate with a select group of elite deep learning specialists to create cutting-edge neural networks and explore the frontiers of AI research and innovation. Your contributions will facilitate the deployment of intelligent systems for both autonomous driving and Tesla Bot.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive applied research to enhance foundation models for autonomous vehicles and humanoid robotics.
  • Engage with the entire machine learning pipeline – managing extensive data streams, designing and implementing novel neural network architectures, training models, and assessing model efficacy.
  • Collaborate with a skilled team on advanced methodologies in large multimodal models, multi-task learning, video networks, generative models, imitation learning, semi-supervised learning, and self-supervised learning.
  • Make a significant impact by deploying foundation models across millions of Tesla's robotic platforms globally.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in deep learning innovations and implementations, evidenced by shipping products or first-author publications at top AI conferences.
  • Strong software engineering expertise: the success of modern deep learning hinges on high-quality implementation, making robust engineering skills essential.
  • Proven excellence in addressing complex software engineering challenges.
  • In-depth understanding of deep learning fundamentals: layer configurations, loss functions, optimization techniques, etc.
  • Experience with PyTorch or another leading deep learning framework.
  • Proficient in handling large datasets.

Expected Compensation

The salary range for this position is $116,000 - $360,000 annually, plus cash and stock awards, along with benefits. Compensation may vary based on individual factors such as market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include other elements depending on the specific position offered.
