POSITION SUMMARY:


The Construction Safety Supervisor will be instrumental in planning, organizing, and executing the MIC Safety Program at construction sites, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and corporate environmental, health, and safety regulations.

This role may serve as the lead safety supervisor on smaller projects.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Safety Management:
Oversee and manage all facets of the safety program on complex construction projects.

Conduct regular workplace safety inspections to identify safety violations and initiate Stop Work Authority when necessary.


Provide direction and guidance to onsite construction personnel regarding corrective actions for safety violations to eliminate hazards and reduce future risks.

Foster a culture of safety by engaging management and craft workers, resulting in superior safety performance.

Participate in the jobsite R4 Safety Committee as required and monitor outcomes for presentation to site management.

Lead or assist in site safety committee meetings and R4 meetings, review R4 documentation, and present findings to management.

Attend weekly general safety meetings, weekly supervisor safety meetings, and daily toolbox talks. Facilitate communication between MIC and client management regarding safety issues.

Input and review incident reports.

Monitor all site safety reports and maintain the site bulletin board for postings.

Track, compile, and present leading indicator statistics to the project leadership team.

Maintain jobsite first aid and emergency response supplies.

Administer drug and alcohol testing on site.

Spend approximately 60% of time in the field on job sites. If unable, communicate this to the Senior Environmental Safety & Health Manager.

Compliance:

Identify workplace safety hazards and take necessary steps to consult and guide site management in corrective actions to eliminate or minimize them.

Document actions on daily activity reports.

Implement the Zero Injury System of safety excellence on projects.

Understand and apply safety policies and procedures.

Comprehend all environmental permitting regulations and measures to ensure compliance.

Implement the company environmental program and conduct weekly inspections as required.

Lead site inspections and testing as necessary and compile DFR in a timely manner.

Review safety program documentation, record keeping, document posting, trenching and scaffold permitting, and regulatory compliance documentation.

Participate in planning and implementing a Hazard Communication Program in compliance with federal, state, and MIC policies, including a hazardous materials list, MSDS file, container labeling, employee training, and subcontractor communications.

Present safety emphasis to site employees as identified.

Participate in and lead emergency responses.

Maintain Site Metrics and share with site and corporate management.

Planning:
Collaborate with management in drafting, organizing, and implementing job site safety plans.

Work closely with the Project Manager and management team to develop, implement, and maintain an effective site-specific safety plan.

Coordinate with the Safety Department on overall program, project training needs, injury management, citation management, OSHA/MSHA reporting requirements, and other relevant matters.

Oversee the MIC injury management program, establishing a working relationship with a local physician to explain the MIC philosophy of managing accidents and provide basic first aid.

Training:
Coordinate and deliver safety training to meet MIC and client requirements. Topics may include Planning, Documentation, New Hire Orientation, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory, etc.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in construction safety management, demonstrating the ability to provide high-level safety leadership to both management and craft workers.

A high school diploma or GED is required.

CHST certification is preferred and will be encouraged.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.

Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors while on-site.

Set a personal example of safe behavior.

Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Ability to type and write reports with accuracy and appropriate grammar.

Strong communication and report writing skills.

Knowledge of MSHA/OSHA regulations, hazard recognition, record keeping, and injury management.

CPR/First Aid Instructor certification and training experience.

Aim for Professional certification (CHST, CMSP, etc.).

Maintain strong relationships with all team members and supervisors.

Other duties may be assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift performing physically demanding tasks in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.


Must maintain physical strength and stamina; utilize arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.

Endurance to perform these tasks repetitively and continuously for several hours.

Uncontrolled environmental conditions:
Frequent changes in weather and site conditions.


This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.


Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).

Ability to navigate confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.


Must be able to work at heights and comply with all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.


Evaluate information based on measurable standards; recognize details in objects or drawings and identify slight differences in shapes and shadings.

Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.

Maintain good balance and work at heights.

Possess good vision (either naturally or with correction).

Possess good hearing (either naturally or with correction).

Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.

HOURS:
This position is a Full-Time role typically requiring 50 hours of work per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements.

TRAVEL:
Travel may be required up to 90%. Position necessitates presence directly on the Project Site location with intermittent travel to the residence of record.
