We are seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector to join our team at Brevard County. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting inspections of building construction, erection, repair, additions, or alterations that require permitting as provided by state law or municipal or county ordinance for compliance with the Florida Building Code and other laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to building construction.
Responsibilities- Conduct inspections of building construction, erection, repair, additions, or alterations to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code and other laws, rules, and regulations.
- Verify that buildings and structures meet the minimum requirements of the Florida Building Code and other applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Identify and report any non-compliance issues or defects in buildings and structures.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to builders, contractors, and other stakeholders on building code requirements and compliance.
- Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure that building code requirements are met and enforced.
- Must possess a minimum of one (1) valid active State of Florida Standard Certification as a 1 and 2 Family Dwelling or Building Inspector issued by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB).
- Must be able to climb a ladder and work at heights above ten (10) feet.
- Must be capable at all times of wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment.
- Work outside in various weather conditions.
- Work in cold, damp, or hot environments.
- Work with electricity, fumes, smoke, gases, or flames.
- Work with odors, poor lighting, or poor ventilation.
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 20 pounds.
- Stand, walk, sit, or drive for extended periods.
- Repetitively perform tasks such as operating foot controls, fine manipulation, pulling, pushing, or simple grasping.
A minimum of one (1) year of experience in building inspection or a related field is required. A valid State of Florida Standard Certification as a 1 and 2 Family Dwelling or Building Inspector issued by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) is also required.
