Quality Assurance Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a company-wide quality culture to ensure that all products manufactured by the Company meet customer specifications and achieve superior quality and reliability levels.
  • Review and analyze production, quality, inventory, and other operational reports.
  • Develop, document, and implement processes and techniques needed for the Quality Management System (QMS), including processes required for system certifications (i.e., ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100).
  • Conduct internal audits, including creating audit reports, closing audit findings, and ensuring appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of personnel responsible for Quality Engineering, the plant-wide calibration system, Material Review Board (MRB) operations, and Returned Material Authorization (RMA) administrative activities.
  • Develop and implement a quality production program to ensure conformity of purchased material and final products to quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain a Supplier Quality Index, utilizing statistical control programs, to assure that only high-quality vendors are retained.
  • Meet with vendors, customers, quality representatives, and Company personnel to discuss and resolve quality problems as required.
  • Prepare for and represent Company during all quality audits.
  • Oversee and/or approve all submissions of new products and engineering changes.
  • Organize and staff department to lead a proactive approach to quality. Utilize APQP methodologies and become the in-house expert on PFMEA, PPAP, APQP, Six Sigma, QMS, and more.
  • Prepare employee performance appraisals and conduct employee coaching and counseling sessions as required.
  • Ensure that all employees receive training appropriate for their position.

New Product Introduction (NPI) Team:

  • Lead the Quality New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer(s) to analyze components on NPI builds to ensure that the Approve Vendor List and media provided to SMTC Corporation contains the desired level of quality.
  • Participate in the NPI product build to answer and resolve component level questions as needed.
  • Provide input to New Product Introduction process to improve component media, component placement, improve reliability.
  • Provide support to Supply Chain and Manufacturing personnel regarding quality aspects of various components.
  • Ensure that all part numbers and descriptions contained in AVL are correctly specifying the component in the proper media.
  • Approve internal standards regarding component selection/purchasing.
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers as needed regarding component reliability or other component issues.
  • Familiar with electronic material regulations.
  • Experience with manufacturer Product Change Notifications (PCNs), Failure Analysis, and End of Life (EOL) processing a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

Product Quality:

  • Collaborate closely with the internal team to resolve issues, analyze risk, and proactively improve quality on customer programs and projects.
  • Define methods and equipment to be used to measure quality characteristics of products and processes.
  • Make recommendations for improving the quality of products and processes, using data collected from the operations and applying problem-solving techniques.
  • Provide quality oversight, support, and expertise for production operations.
  • Follow through on resolving product defects, nonconformance, and corrective actions.
  • Manage returns from customers and do failure analysis.
  • Experience with the operation of measuring instruments, methods, and equipment for inspection of product (i.e., CMM, SPC, pin gages, drop gages, concentricity gages).
  • Understand calibration/verification of measuring instruments.
  • Monitor product and production process to ensure quality objectives are met.
  • Develop methods for inspection, testing, and measurement.
  • Support Quality Inspectors to ensure that products and processes comply with relevant requirements of the quality management system.
  • Develop procedures, visual standards, inspection work instructions, PFMEA's, and control plans, conduct process capability studies, and coordinate APQP and NPI efforts on new projects.
  • Interface with Engineering and Operations to ensure that approved documentation is transferred to Production.

Continuous Improvement Activities:

  • Investigate quality issues to discover root causes. Conduct root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions. Make recommendations for quality improvement.
  • Review quality data reports. Work closely with the MRB Team to evaluate, investigate, and resolve non-conformances.
  • Responsible for continual improvement activities to enhance the quality system.

Training:

  • Develop and implement training to build quality awareness.
  • Assist in the development of training plans for production, quality, and operations employees that affect product quality, scrap reductions, downtime, and productivity.

Supplier Quality:

  • In collaboration with Purchasing, manage suppliers' performance, including the timely resolution of supplier non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers performing supplier audits and helping suppliers improve their quality performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics or equivalent training and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand electronics schematics, technical documents, assembly drawings, and other work instructions.
  • Understanding of electronic components.
  • Familiar with AS9100, IATF 16949, ISO 13485, and ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Competence in use of computer software and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Able to work in a team with peers or subordinates to resolve issues.
  • Experience in statistical analysis, six-sigma, and process qualification. Strong attention to detail, highly organized.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced professional office environment.
