Job Summary

The ECMO Specialist is a critical care nurse responsible for the daily operation of the ECMO program under the direction of the ECMO Medical Director. This role requires expertise in monitoring and troubleshooting the ECMO circuit and related equipment, ensuring the safe and effective administration of blood products and medication delivery to patients. The ECMO Specialist works closely with the bedside nurse to ensure proper perfusion, acid-base balance, and hemodynamic stability in patients on ECMO. Additionally, this role involves managing CRRT when connected in-line with the ECMO circuit, performing quality control and quality assurance, and participating in continuous learning and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and troubleshoot the ECMO circuit and related equipment
  • Administer blood products and medication safely and effectively
  • Work with bedside nurses to ensure proper patient care
  • Manage CRRT when connected in-line with the ECMO circuit
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance
  • Participate in continuous learning and quality improvement initiatives


Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida
  • Three years' experience as a professional nurse, including minimum two years in a critical care and/or hospital emergency department
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as an ECMO competent professional nurse
  • Maintenance of BLS and ACLS both required upon hire
  • Achievement of national certification in critical care preferred and the Adult Certified ECMO Specialist (CES-A) required or ELSO Adult ECMO Practitioner Certification (E-AEC) within two years of hire
