Job Title: Train Conductor

CPKC is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Train Conductor to join our team. As a key member of our railway operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trains across our 20,000-mile network.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work in train or yard service, depending on seniority
  • Carry out specific instructions detailing a train's route and movements
  • Coordinate the switching of cars, including coupling and uncoupling
  • Observe, interpret, and relay signals and other indications affecting train movement
  • Signal crew members for movement of the engine or train
Requirements:
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding work, including walking up to 6 miles a day on uneven ground
  • Willingness to work unscheduled shift work in a 24/7 operating environment
  • Ability to report to work within a two-hour call window, after scheduled rest
  • Excellent focus, attention to detail, and ability to multitask
  • Strong communication skills, including clear and concise instructions/directions

Training and Development:

CPKC provides 16 weeks of paid in-class and field training, providing you with a solid understanding of our safety practices, rules, and operations. You will earn $261.72 per day in classroom training and $42.90 per hour in on-the-job training.

The average conductor earns approximately $120,000 annually, with the ability to make up to $139,000.

Medical Requirements:

As this position is considered safety-critical, successful candidates are required to complete a pre-employment medical that includes a physical, vision (including accurate color vision), hearing, alcohol, and drug audit assessment.

Candidates will also be required to pass a drug test during the training process before receiving final qualification for the position.

Background Investigations:

The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the following clearances:

  • Criminal history check
  • Driver's license verification
  • Last 3 years of driving history
  • Last 7 years of employment history, including military service
  • Social Security number verification
  • US Passport verification
