Sheet Metal Mechanic Job Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our team at W. W. Gay Mechanical Contractor, Inc. in Jacksonville, Florida.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, fabricate, and install sheet metal duct to specifications, ensuring high-quality results and meeting project deadlines.
  • Install hangers, supports, according to plans or shop drawings and applicable specifications, demonstrating attention to detail and safety protocols.
  • Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment, adhering to safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Read and interpret project drawings and specifications, applying technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to ensure accurate installation.
  • Lay out work including hanger locations, duct routes, and equipment pads/curbs, utilizing spatial reasoning and planning skills.
  • Install rectangular, spiral, and duct board with occasional insulate duct work, maintaining a high level of quality and efficiency.
  • Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks, prioritizing a safe working environment.
  • Ability to occasionally work in an attic or underneath a structure in crawl space, demonstrating adaptability and flexibility.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, with a strong foundation in mathematics and science.
  • 5 years of experience with commercial sheet metal duct installation, with a proven track record of success.
  • Ability to read prints and construction drawings, applying technical knowledge and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-motivation and discipline.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and communicate with clients.
  • Trade knowledge of all joint methods for sheet metal duct, with a strong understanding of industry standards and best practices.
  • OSHA 10-hour card, with a commitment to safety and compliance.

Physical Requirements
  • Physical activities of walking and lifting of weights of 50 pounds or more are required, with a focus on maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Must be capable of working outside in the elements, with a strong commitment to adapting to changing weather conditions.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), with a focus on safety and compliance.

Compensation

$30.00 per hour, with a competitive benefits package and opportunities for career advancement.
