LPN - General Surgery Nurse

Job Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in coordinating patient care, adhering to established standards of practice within the State and Federal guidelines.
As a key member of the healthcare team, the LPN provides mentorship to non-nursing personnel, serves as a resource to staff and management in problem identification and resolution, and ensures seamless patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Initial patient interview, reviewing medical profiles, and documenting pertinent information.
- Obtaining and accurately documenting patient vital signs, weight, and reporting any abnormalities to physicians.
- Assisting with specimen collection and testing as necessary, and providing minor treatment as directed by physicians.
- Providing education to patients and families, assessing learning needs, and documenting all patient-related activities.
- Scheduling patient testing, pre-certifying insurance requirements, and responding to telephone messages by the end of the shift.
- Ensuring exam rooms are stocked, maintaining inventory, and ordering supplies as needed.
- Notifying patients of test results, following physician instructions, and participating in continuing education programs.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in CT.
- Maintains a minimum of 6 contact hours, annually.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Minimum of 2 years previous experience in a similar position.
