Position Scope and Organizational Impact

Moss' Engineering Studies Manager SME will be responsible for overseeing internal and external consultant engineering services related to project-specific civil, electrical, and mechanical designs for our Utility Scale Solar projects.

This position will have the opportunity to grow and support the success of the pre-construction team.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review electrical systems analysis reports, including arc flash, short circuit, grounding, and coordination studies.
  • Understand power system protection and relaying schemes for electrical distribution systems.
  • Familiar with utility scale solar project designs, including single line drawings, electrical site plans, DC and AC wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts.
  • Understand the construction applications of solar power plant design, including PV string sizing, DC and AC conductor and conduit sizing, and racking/tracker design and powering.
  • Possess knowledge of electrical and system studies required for plant designs.
  • Comfortable traveling cross-country to perform site visits and provide technical support to construction teams.
  • Have experience with substation design review and coordination at medium voltages (usually 34.5 kV) to point of interconnect.
  • Have direct and relevant experience with the latest solar and battery storage equipment, including solar panels, inverters/transformers, racking systems, and battery systems.
  • Ability to develop, review, and approve engineering scope of work documents.

Education and Work Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in engineering, technical field, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in the solar construction industry or direct engineering on solar construction projects.
  • Must have a great attitude in working with the Moss team.
  • Knowledge of electrical design, materials, and methods of construction in power systems.
  • Experience with CDGS, SKM, ETAP, or similar software.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution and transmission systems is a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) as it relates to utility scale power plants is a plus.
  • Good communications and presentation skills, including the ability to organize and present complex technical information effectively in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task multiple projects at once.
