About the Role

Columbus McKinnon is seeking a skilled Machinist - CNC Operator to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for operating CNC equipment to manufacture metal parts from raw material.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret complex drawings and specifications to determine work to be done
  • Operate numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to precise specifications
  • Perform diversified operations on CNC machines, including milling, drilling, and boring
  • Review setup sheets and specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished workpieces
  • Attach fixtures to machine beds and position and secure workpieces in fixtures according to setup instructions
  • Select and install cutting tools in machine spindles or magazines
  • Load control media, such as disks, tapes, or punch cards, in machine control consoles or enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from databases
  • Manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tools to specified set points and start machines
  • Observe and listen to machine operations to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools
  • Change cutting tools and locations of workpieces during machining processes as specified in setup instructions
  • Perform inspection and gaging operations to ensure maintenance of quality standards and specifications
  • Measure workpieces for conformance to specifications and notify supervisors of discrepancies
  • Utilize override controls to correct conditions that are out of tolerance or operating unusually
  • Adjust machine feeds and speeds and change cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machines malfunction
  • Machine materials other than metal, such as composites, plastics, and rubbers
  • Clean machines, tooling, and parts
  • Perform machine maintenance
Requirements
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talking or hearing
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
