Job Summary

Columbus McKinnon is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead our plant operations team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Programming activities to support plant operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process Development and Control: Manage all aspects of plant manufacturing engineering, including process development and control, cost estimates, routing, and planning for new product development, methods development, plant improvement, and cost reduction.
  • Cost Savings and Efficiency: Measure and provide supporting data on cost-saving programs to ensure they do not exceed budget.
  • Programming and Tooling Strategies: Develop and deploy robust programming, work holding, and tooling strategies for capital equipment to achieve utilization and cost targets.
  • Project Management: Identify projects with staff managers and the plant manager to significantly improve delivery, quality, cost, and service in every aspect of our business.
  • Priority Setting: Prioritize projects based on impact to the division and ease of implementation.
  • Lean and Continuous Improvement: Focus the manufacturing engineering group on full support of lean and continuous improvement of all processes.
  • Make or Buy Designations: Determine make or buy designations for new and existing components.
  • New Product Development: Oversee and launch new product lines and development.
  • Continuous Improvement Culture: Support a plant-wide culture of continuous improvement.
  • Problem-Solving: Lead problem-solving teams to determine true 'root cause' with permanent deployed solutions.
  • Self-Directed Improvement: Take a self-directed approach to improving manufacturing operations and product flow.
  • Performance Reviews: Conduct annual progressive performance reviews with detailed education and growth plans for team career paths.
Requirements
  • Analytical Skills: Extremely analytical with strong attention to detail.
  • Project Management Experience: Experience with project management software desirable.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities with time management independently.
  • Communication Skills: A team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to think abstractly to deal with ambiguous/undefined problems with a desire to collaborate with others.
  • Mechanical Knowledge: Experience with machine tools and machining processes, up to and including programming and work holding applications.
Qualifications
  • Physical Demands: The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or 4+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Requires experience with CNC programming, machining, lean/Kaizen/Six Sigma, and TQM systems.
  • Tools and Systems: Requires experience in tools and systems including, but not limited to, control plans, CAPEX planning, FMEA, quality containment, management of ECN process, maintenance of accurate routers, root cause analysis, ISO, and design of experiment.
