FEDERAL FACILITY PRACTICE OVERVIEW

Michael Baker employs a holistic approach to land development, guiding clients through every phase of a project. This includes due diligence, initial site planning, entitlement approvals, and extends to final engineering, construction oversight, and surveying.

Our engineering services are complemented by in-house planning and surveying expertise, ensuring we meet our clients' strategic objectives while delivering quality service and timely project completion.

Our proficient land development team collaborates with high-priority clients on a variety of project types, including government facilities, military installations, commercial developments, industrial parks, and public infrastructure.


POSITION SUMMARY

The ideal candidate will be part of our dynamic Civil Site and Utility team in San Diego, CA, reporting directly to a Project Manager.

This team, comprised of both emerging and experienced professionals, is dedicated to innovative and efficient solutions for design challenges, contributing to award-winning projects across federal, commercial, industrial, and residential sectors in the western United States.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the Project Manager to deliver comprehensive development design packages.
  • Executing civil engineering designs encompassing site layout, grading, earthwork balance, drainage, utilities, sanitary systems, water distribution, stormwater management, and erosion control.
  • Preparing technical documentation and project specifications with minimal oversight.
  • Managing project tasks and budgets while mentoring junior staff.
  • Aiming for advancement into project management or technical leadership roles.
  • Working collaboratively across multiple civil disciplines to address design challenges.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with 6-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required, California preferred.
  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for this role.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is essential.
  • Experience in site and utility design projects, including grading, civil site design, hydrology, storm drain hydraulics, and construction detailing.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical for success in this position.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is between $110,000 and $130,000, commensurate with the candidate's experience and expertise.
