REPORTS TO: Principal

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct the activities of teaching assistants.

PURPOSE: To design, organize, and deliver educational instruction and environments that facilitate student learning in essential subject matter and skills contributing to their academic and social growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Instructional Time

The educator ensures that all materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson are prepared in advance; initiates class promptly; engages students quickly at the start of each lesson; and maintains a high level of student engagement throughout the instructional period.

B. MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Student Behavior

The educator establishes clear rules and procedures for managing routine administrative tasks; sets guidelines for student participation and interaction during various instructional activities; monitors student behavior consistently during all activities and transitions; addresses inappropriate behavior promptly while preserving student dignity.

C. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Presentation

The educator begins each lesson with a review of prior materials; introduces new lessons and specific learning objectives; communicates fluently and clearly; presents lessons using concepts and language that are accessible to students; provides relevant examples and demonstrations; assigns tasks that students can successfully complete; asks questions that are appropriately challenging; and summarizes key points at the conclusion of each lesson.

D. MAJOR FUNCTION: Monitoring Student Performance

The educator maintains clear and reasonable standards for student work and deadlines; circulates during class to assess student performance; regularly uses various assessments to gauge student progress; and poses questions clearly and sequentially.

E. MAJOR FUNCTION: Providing Instructional Feedback

The educator offers constructive feedback on in-class work to promote student development; provides timely feedback on out-of-class assignments; acknowledges correct responses appropriately; and supports students after incorrect responses through probing and additional guidance.

F. MAJOR FUNCTION: Facilitating Instruction

The educator develops an instructional plan that aligns with the school and district curricular goals; utilizes diagnostic information from assessments to refine objectives and tasks; maintains accurate records of student performance; and ensures that instructional strategies align with student needs and levels of difficulty.

G. MAJOR FUNCTION: Engaging in the Educational Environment

The educator treats all students equitably; interacts effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community.

H. MAJOR FUNCTION: Performing Non-Instructional Duties

The educator carries out assigned non-instructional responsibilities; adheres to established laws, policies, and regulations; and engages in professional development activities to demonstrate growth.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure as a teacher.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements: Must be able to utilize various classroom tools and equipment. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to convey or exchange information effectively.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read and prepare various documents and instructional materials.
