REPORTS TO: Principal

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and oversee the activities of instructional aides.

PURPOSE: To design, organize, and deliver educational instruction and environments that foster student learning in essential subject matter and skills, contributing to their academic and social growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Instructional Time

The instructor ensures that all materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson are prepared in advance; initiates class promptly; engages students quickly at the start of each session; maintains a high level of student engagement throughout.

B. MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Student Behavior

The instructor establishes clear rules and procedures for managing routine administrative tasks; sets guidelines for student participation and interaction during various instructional formats; monitors student behavior consistently during all activities and transitions; addresses inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.

C. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Presentation

The instructor begins each lesson with a review of prior materials; introduces new content and specific learning objectives when necessary; communicates fluently and clearly; presents lessons using concepts and language that are accessible to students; provides relevant examples and demonstrations to clarify concepts and skills; assigns tasks that students can successfully complete; poses questions that are appropriately challenging; conducts lessons at a suitable pace, adjusting as needed for student comprehension; ensures clarity of assignments; summarizes key points at the conclusion of each lesson.

D. MAJOR FUNCTION: Monitoring Student Performance

The instructor maintains clear and reasonable standards for work and deadlines; circulates during class to assess student performance; regularly uses various assessments to gauge student progress; asks questions clearly and one at a time.

E. MAJOR FUNCTION: Providing Instructional Feedback

The instructor offers constructive feedback on in-class work to promote student development; consistently provides timely feedback on out-of-class assignments; acknowledges correct responses appropriately and moves forward; offers supportive feedback after incorrect responses by probing, repeating questions, or allowing additional time.

F. MAJOR FUNCTION: Facilitating Instruction

The instructor develops an instructional plan that aligns with school and district curricular goals; utilizes diagnostic information from assessments to refine objectives and tasks; maintains accurate records to document student performance; ensures that the instructional plan aligns objectives, learning strategies, assessments, and student needs at the appropriate level of difficulty; leverages available resources to enhance the instructional program.

G. MAJOR FUNCTION: Interacting Within the Educational Environment

The instructor treats all students fairly and equitably; engages effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community.

H. MAJOR FUNCTION: Performing Non-Instructional Duties

The instructor fulfills non-instructional responsibilities as assigned and/or as needed; adheres to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations; follows a professional development plan and demonstrates evidence of growth.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure as a teacher.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements: Must be able to use various equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, and other instructional materials. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge observable characteristics of data, people, or things.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to communicate effectively to convey or exchange information.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read and prepare various documents and instructional materials.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to explain procedures clearly.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes accurately in using office equipment.

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle various items such as office equipment and tools.

Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear effectively.
