Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Early Childhood Education Assistant to join our team at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The successful candidate will assist the teacher or principal in providing a supportive learning environment for students, helping them achieve academic excellence and develop essential skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the instruction of individual students or groups of students in all curricular areas as directed by the teacher.
  • Plan and work with the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing skills and concepts based on the understanding of individual students-their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Operate and care for equipment and materials for instructional purposes.
  • Monitor individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Interact and have conversations with children during outside, meal, and center times.
  • Interact positively with children, parents, and colleagues and facilitate positive interactions among children.
  • Collaborate and share ideas and strategies with other team members.
  • Facilitate children?s efforts to be self-managing.
  • Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Participate in in-service training programs for professional growth.
  • Assist with school routines and transitions.
  • Assist in checking materials and portfolios, supervising and assessing students as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with student attendance procedures, record keeping, collecting money, ordering materials, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in the daily bus car, and van transportation duties involving children?s arrival and departure to and from school.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will hold a high school diploma or GED and be working toward a minimum of an Associate Degree in early childhood education or child development (ECE/CD) or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Alternatively, the candidate may meet the employment requirements of NCLB legislation and have one of the following: six documented semester hours of coursework in early childhood education or two years of work experience in an early childhood setting.
