Job Title: Undulator Magnetic Measurement Engineer

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled engineer to join our Magnetic Measurements Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing undulator magnetic measurements using precision test benches, analyzing the measurements, and determining the necessary corrections to the magnetic field to meet specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform undulator magnetic measurements using precision test benches
  • Analyze measurements and determine necessary corrections to magnetic field
  • Work closely with technicians to bring devices into lab, set up at measurement bench, and make magnetic field adjustments
  • Collaborate with alignment crews to fiducialize devices
  • Work with line management and undulator system physicist to ensure final data set is complete and undulator specifications are met
  • Perform timely calibrations of related instrumentation
  • Assist with other magnetic measurement group tasks
Requirements:
  • B.S. in physics, electrical engineering, or related technical field
  • Two years of relevant experience in magnetic measurement
  • Proficient in magnetic measurement techniques
  • Knowledge of C programming language, Labwindows, and Matlab
  • Knowledge of alignment and fiducialization
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and communicate effectively
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. degree in physics or post-doctoral experience
  • Good knowledge of variable gap hybrid undulator magnetics
  • Experience using EPICS control system
  • Experience handling strong permanent magnets
