As a Certified Recreational Therapist, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising a comprehensive program of therapeutic recreation activities for a specialized population of individuals with various diagnoses and multiple disabilities in an adult day health care center.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs and activities that meet the needs of clients with diverse abilities and diagnoses.
- Supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate staff, including senior program assistants and program assistants.
- Manage a comprehensive volunteer program, including recruitment, screening, and matching of volunteer applicants with program needs.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop treatment plans and activity plans that meet the needs of clients.
- Ensure compliance with licensing requirements, including CPR, First Aid, and in-service training.
- Bachelor's degree in recreation and park, therapeutic recreation, horticulture, agriculture, cultural and historic resources, or a related field.
- Three years of experience in park or recreation-related work, including one year of supervisory experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications within 60 days of appointment.
- Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Certification within one year of appointment.
- Master's degree in public health, public administration, or a related field.
- Certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or eligibility for certification within one year.
The employee is required to walk, stand for long periods of time, bend, sit, kneel, reach, climb stairs, push, pull, and participate in recreational therapy. The employee must be able to use hands to grasp, handle, or feel, and have visual acuity to read data on a computer monitor. The employee must be able to operate a keyboard-driven equipment and carry equipment and assist with client transfers from sitting to standing and lift up to 30 pounds.
