Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Imaging Specialist to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As a Medical Sonographer, you will play a critical role in providing clinically relevant information to assist physicians with the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate, and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and explain procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort and understanding throughout the process.
  • Monitor and interpret medical diagnostic scans, applying independent judgment to acquire diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
  • Assist physicians with procedures, providing sonographic guidance during the process, and obtain necessary supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Prepare exam rooms and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infection disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety of patients during sonographic examinations.
  • Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information to ensure accurate and effective examination results.
  • Evaluate any contraindications, insufficient patient preparation, and the patient's inability or unwillingness to tolerate the examination and associated procedures.
  • Conduct patient clinical assessments and perform diagnostic medical sonography examinations ordered by supervising physicians in accordance with professional and facility protocols.
  • Apply independent, professional, ethical judgment, and critical thinking to safely perform diagnostic sonography procedures.
  • Apply independent judgment during sonography examinations to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in examination images.
  • Except as authorized by written facility policies and procedures, refer specific diagnostic, treatment, or prognosis questions to the appropriate physician or healthcare professional.
  • Identify and document any limitations to sonography examinations.
  • Review examination images, synthesize examination results, and prepare preliminary findings.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA) and facility policies and procedures.
  • Provide patient services consistent with the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for the Diagnostic Sonographer.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with co-workers, administrators, and members of the healthcare team.
  • Teach ultrasound procedures and techniques to visitors in the department, such as residents, students, fellows, and new sonographers.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in allied health and completion of an approved one-year program in Ultrasound Technology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications.
  • ARDMS Registration, required.
  • Registered in vascular, required within the first 12 months of employment.
