The role of the school nurse is essential in ensuring the health and safety of all students, thereby enhancing their learning experience, as well as safeguarding the well-being of all staff members to improve their work efficiency.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
Must possess a valid Texas Registered Nursing License as issued by The Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Current certifications in vision and hearing assessments.
- Current certification in CPR.
Experience:
Preferred experience in school nursing, or a minimum of three years in hospital floor duty, or experience in a pediatric office setting.
Working Conditions:
Mental, Physical, and Environmental Demands:
This position involves interactions with individuals who may be ill or injured, which could include exposure to bodily fluids, infectious agents, and challenging behaviors. There may also be exposure to potentially hazardous medical equipment and chemicals. The role requires the ability to perform CPR and engage in physically demanding tasks related to nursing responsibilities. This includes walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting or carrying items related to work, such as medical supplies and educational materials, with the potential to lift up to 53 pounds when assisting with student or staff transfers.

Exempt
Pay Grade: 60
Reporting Structure:
Reports to the Director of School Nursing for health-related matters and the Campus Principal for campus policies.
Work Schedule:
192 days.
