POSITION OVERVIEW
As a key member of the rehabilitation team, the Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant is responsible for executing treatment plans and applying therapeutic modalities as prescribed by the supervising physical therapist. This role is essential in aiding patients to regain their functional abilities and prevent further disability following injuries or illnesses. The assistant works closely with patients to help them achieve their highest potential in daily activities, while also educating them on their capabilities. Active participation in departmental operations and quality improvement initiatives is expected, along with involvement in mandatory educational programs. A thorough understanding of hospital and departmental policies is essential, with a strong focus on delivering timely and effective patient care while respecting patient rights.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver treatment as directed by the supervising physical therapist, adhering to established standards of practice.
2. Observe and assess treatment outcomes, providing feedback to the physical therapist for necessary adjustments.
3. Execute appropriate treatments for a diverse patient demographic, including neonates, children, adults, and seniors.
4. Collaborate in developing educational plans based on patient and family needs, documenting the effectiveness of learning and involving family members as appropriate.
5. Exhibit knowledge of various physical therapy modalities and their applications.
6. Treat patients and their families with dignity and respect, addressing their psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs.
7. Operate equipment safely and maintain a clean and safe environment within the department.
8. Engage professionally with patients and families, ensuring their involvement in care planning.
9. Communicate effectively with licensed practitioners, physical therapists, and other staff members.
10. Coordinate patient care to meet individual needs while adhering to hospital policies.
11. Maintain accurate records related to departmental operations and personnel.
12. Demonstrate flexibility and organizational skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
13. Foster positive working relationships within the department and across other departments.
14. Consult with other departments as necessary to enhance patient care and departmental performance.
15. Ensure documentation complies with current standards and policies.
16. Complete required educational training related to stroke care and rehabilitation annually.
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
Required: Must meet the educational and training standards set by the relevant regulatory board.
Experience:
Preferred: Ideally, candidates will have one to two years of relevant training through both in-hospital and external courses, with exposure to various patient care settings.
Skills and Abilities:
Required: Maintain professional competencies as mandated by the healthcare institution and regulatory bodies.
Licensure/Certification:
Required: Must hold a valid license from the appropriate regulatory board and possess BCLS certification.
