Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Logistics Coordinator to join our team at West Pak Avocado, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for dispatching trucks, managing in-house and third-party carriers, controlling distribution routes for efficient on-time deliveries, following DOT regulations, and supporting sales team goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate transportation rates and services with carriers to ensure optimal delivery times and costs.
  • Maintain relationships and contracts with carriers to ensure reliable and efficient transportation services.
  • Oversee scheduling of shipments to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Book, track, and maintain on-time delivery of goods to meet customer expectations.
  • Ensure transit times and on-time deliveries are maintained by monitoring and adjusting transportation routes as needed.
  • Ensure carrier compliance with company policies and procedures for product transit and delivery.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to determine immediate and future trucking needs and develop strategies to meet those needs.
  • Maintain relationships with various accounts to learn how to handle their respective needs more efficiently.
  • Maintain all transportation vendors' insurance certificates to ensure compliance with company policies.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or some college preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in transportation for produce or perishable food industries.
  • Direct experience with routing and load planning.

Preferred Skills

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make sound decisions and solve problems.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

The Logistics Coordinator will have extensive internal and external interfaces with others and will require continual problem-solving, prioritization of tasks and projects, resolution of conflicting needs and issues, and the ability to read, analyze, and interpret trends and data.

The essential functions of this job require frequent sitting for prolonged periods of time as well as occasional standing and walking. Sensory demands require the ability to constantly hear and talk, both in person and by phone, and the ability to use a computer, calculator, and standard office equipment. Specific vision acuity required by this job includes close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and color vision when inspecting products. Physical demands include bending, stooping, and reaching above and below shoulder level in order to access records, as well as lifting and carrying files and documents typically weighing less than 25 pounds, with or without assistance.
