Position Overview

As a YMCA Trainer, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a supportive environment that empowers individuals to reach their health and fitness aspirations.


Key ResponsibilitiesCore Duties:
  • Uphold the Mission and Vision of the YMCA while fostering community connections.
  • Establish a diverse clientele for personal training, including both individual and small group sessions.
  • Provide clear demonstrations and explanations of exercises, ensuring proper form and technique.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with members, offering encouragement and guidance.
  • Engage in educational sessions for members to enhance their fitness knowledge.
  • Monitor and document client progress effectively.
  • Maintain regular follow-ups with clients to ensure consistent support.
  • Ensure the proper operation of all fitness equipment and report any issues promptly.
  • Be available to assist on the gym floor as needed.
  • Adhere to all YMCA policies, procedures, and emergency protocols, including completing necessary reports.
  • Participate in scheduled training sessions and meetings.

QualificationsEssential Requirements:
  • A four-year degree in Exercise Science or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Possession of a nationally recognized certification (ideal certifications include NSCA, ACSM, NASM).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • A friendly, enthusiastic, and ambitious demeanor.
  • Proven ability to conduct fitness assessments and design progressive exercise programs tailored to individual goals.
  • Capability to instruct and monitor participants in proper exercise techniques.
  • Ability to create and oversee safe and effective exercise regimens while recognizing individual potential and limitations.
  • Skill in communicating the value and transformative potential of personal training to members.
  • Reliability, dependability, flexibility, and adaptability are essential traits.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Observant and safety-conscious, with the ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergencies.
