School Social Services Coordinator

Current and valid New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker Certification; and
A minimum of three years' experience working with families and/or children is preferred.

Director of Student Support Services;
Director of Special Education
Employment Terms:
10-month work year
Salary and working conditions in accordance with the agreement between Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES and the relevant association; performance will be evaluated annually by a direct supervisor.
Position Purpose:
To foster a nurturing, secure, and supportive environment by enhancing the understanding of the social and emotional growth of children and the impact of family, community, and cultural diversity on student achievement.
To provide assistance to students at risk of academic failure and/or exhibiting social, emotional, and behavioral challenges within the educational setting.
To serve as a vital link connecting students with their families, educational institutions, and community resources.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with students, parents, educators, administrators, and community members to identify and implement appropriate learning strategies, behavioral interventions, and social-emotional support.
2. Maintain a thorough understanding of FERPA and other state regulations governing ethical counseling practices.
3. Work alongside educators, behavior specialists, administrators, and families to cultivate safe, healthy, and supportive educational environments.
4. Conduct various social work assessments, including interviews and completion of necessary documentation to evaluate students' circumstances and backgrounds.
5. Provide instruction in social skills, anger management, stress reduction, and similar areas to students facing social, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges that hinder their learning.
6. Determine the appropriate therapeutic approach and educational strategies to support students and their families.
7. Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including case reports and related recommendations.
8. Engage in professional development activities focused on current trends and best practices in comprehensive school social work services.
9. Act as a liaison with community organizations and resources to address student needs; refer families and students to appropriate agencies when necessary.
10. Stay informed about evolving developments, trends, instructional technologies, and programs relevant to the role of a school social worker.
11. Empower students, families, and school staff to access available opportunities and resources.
12. Conduct home visits as needed and encourage parental involvement in the educational process.
13. Serve as a liaison with Child Protective Services, the Department of Social Services, and other relevant agencies supporting children and families.
14. Perform additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisors or the Superintendent of Schools.
