Department Overview:

The Robotics and Autonomous Systems department (L131) within the Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy Innovation Center is seeking qualified candidates for a Group Leader role in our Trustworthy Autonomy and AI Group. This leader will guide a dynamic team of engineers dedicated to developing technologies and solutions that meet sponsor requirements and foster a safer world. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and engage with state-of-the-art technology. Responsibilities will include a diverse range of challenging tasks in direct support of sponsor programs and contributing to MITRE's AI and autonomy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Contributor: Actively engage in a technical work program, producing high-quality technical outputs that lead to successful outcomes for our clients.
  • Department and Staff Engagement: Serve as a direct supervisor for assigned personnel, providing technical guidance, conducting regular performance evaluations, advocating for staff, and communicating with project/task leaders regarding performance.
  • Technical Quality and Capability Development: Collaborate with department management to shape the workforce, develop work programs, and stay informed about emerging technical challenges and opportunities.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Facilitate ongoing communication between staff and project/task leaders, act as a liaison between team members and upper management, and promote collaboration across portfolios while sharing knowledge within the organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in Autonomy and AI, with a Bachelor's degree in a technical field; or 6 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven technical expertise in testing and evaluation, assurance, and resilience of Autonomous and AI systems.
  • Solid understanding of AI and Autonomy applications, strengths, and limitations across various sectors (DoD, Services, Intelligence Community, DHS, Industry, and Academia).
  • Ability to articulate specific testing and evaluation challenges, discuss critical issues, and identify gaps.
  • Active Secret Clearance is required.
  • This position necessitates a minimum of 4 days a week on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with advancements in Autonomy and AI evaluation capabilities in both industry and academia.
  • Experience leading teams to implement and assess AI and Autonomy algorithms.
  • Ability to develop, propose, and execute research in the field of testing and evaluation.
