Academic Advisor

Job Summary:

Germanna Community College is seeking a dedicated and passionate Academic Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our student services department, you will play a vital role in helping students achieve their educational and career goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Discuss career and educational goals with students to provide personalized guidance and support.
• Advise students on degree and course options to ensure they are on the right path to achieving their goals.
• Maintain accurate records of advising sessions and student performance to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
• Identify student strengths and weaknesses to provide targeted support and resources.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of institutional policies and procedures to ensure compliance and effective service delivery.
• Connect students with resources such as counselors, tutors, and other support services to ensure they have access to the help they need.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the college's mission and goals.

Requirements:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with students and colleagues.
• Knowledge of educational technologies such as PeopleSoft and Navigate to effectively support students and colleagues.
• Strong written communication skills to create clear and concise documents and reports.
• Commitment to working with diverse colleagues, students, and community members to create an inclusive and welcoming environment.
• Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity to create a culture of respect and empathy.
• Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools to stay ahead of the curve and provide innovative solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advising experience at the college level, preferably at a community college.
• Understanding of Germanna (and VCCS) policies, procedures, and resources to provide expert guidance and support.
• Student services experience at the college level to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role.
