Job Title: Academic Advisor

Job Summary:

Germanna Community College is seeking a dedicated and passionate Academic Advisor to join our team. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a vital role in helping students achieve their educational and career goals by providing guidance, support, and resources to ensure their success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Discuss career and educational goals with students to understand their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Advise students on degree and course options to help them achieve their goals.
  • Maintain records of advising sessions and student performance to track progress.
  • Identify student strengths and weaknesses to provide targeted support.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of institutional policies and procedures.
  • Connect students with resources, such as counselors or tutors, to support their academic success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the college's mission and goals.

Requirements:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Knowledge of educational technologies, such as PeopleSoft and Navigate, to support student success.
  • Strong written communication skills to provide clear and concise guidance to students.
  • Commitment to working with diverse colleagues, students, and community members to promote equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity in all aspects of college life.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools to support student success.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advising experience at the college level, preferably at a Community College.
  • Understanding of Germanna (and VCCS) policies, procedures, and resources to provide effective guidance to students.
  • Student Services experience at the college level to support student success.
