POSITION SUMMARY:
The Building Inspections Manager is responsible for overseeing the administrative functions of the Hall County Building Inspections Department. This role includes managing the permitting process, supervising office staff, and coordinating the schedules of building inspectors. The manager also addresses public inquiries and complaints in the absence of the Chief Building Official, while preparing necessary reports and budgetary documents.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitates communication between various departments, including Planning, Engineering, and Business Licensing, to streamline the permitting process for both residential and commercial projects.
- Develops and manages the department's operational budget, providing financial insights and recommendations to the Chief Building Official.
- Oversees all purchasing and accounting activities, ensuring accurate tracking of expenses and inventory management.
- Generates correspondence and maintains comprehensive monthly reports on permitting activities.
- Supervises clerical personnel, managing their performance, schedules, and other HR-related tasks.
- Coordinates the schedules of building inspectors to ensure efficient operations.
- Acts on behalf of the Chief Building Official when necessary, including issuing permits and resolving public inquiries.
- Assists in the formulation and execution of departmental goals, policies, and training programs.
- Provides necessary information to the public and developers regarding the permitting and inspection processes.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for this role.
- Performs additional duties as required.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Utilizes a personal computer, calculator, audio/visual equipment, and Microsoft Office applications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Associate Degree in Business, Management, Accounting, or a related field, along with five years of experience in building permitting and customer service, preferably in construction or engineering.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to effectively communicate complex processes to developers, contractors, and homeowners.
- Familiarity with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and the ability to manage various records and reports.
- Proficient in drafting and interpreting building plans.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Competence in personnel management, including training and evaluating staff performance.
- Proficient in relevant software applications, including Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
- Ability to interact diplomatically with the public.
ADA MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Ability: This position requires the ability to remain stationary, operate office equipment, and manage stress effectively. Incumbents must also be able to move about the office and occasionally lift items up to 10 lbs.
Sensory Requirements: Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with hand-eye coordination for equipment use.
Environmental Factors: This role requires the ability to work collaboratively or independently as needed.
