Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Radiation Therapy Nurse to provide professional nursing care to patients undergoing radiation therapy. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Radiation Therapy Manager and Oncology Service Line Director, and will be responsible for coordinating total nursing care for patients, participating in patient and family teaching, and advocating for patients' needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and prepare patient charts for visits
  • Obtain and monitor vital signs
  • Review present healthcare practices and identify current health problems
  • Address the need for nursing intervention and identify the type of intervention necessary
  • Evaluate patients' healthcare strengths and utilize these to overcome identified limitations
  • Reinforce teaching provided by physicians concerning illness/injury, the healing process, and the recognition of complications
  • Identify problems interfering with compliance to prescribed medical regimens and adjust the nursing plan accordingly
  • Administer medications per MD order
  • Reinforce teaching done by providers to patients and families about specific drugs and their side effects
  • Insert IV catheters and administer IV drugs
  • Monitor patients for adverse side effects of IV or IM drugs
  • Set up and assist in performing sterile procedures
  • Provide emotional support to patients undergoing specific procedures/examinations
  • Reinforce teaching, provided by physicians, to patients/family members regarding dressing techniques
  • Draw blood samples and obtain specimens for cultures, urinalysis and/or wound analysis
  • Recognize and respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations
  • Participate in department Clinical Quality Measures and other defined quality processes and procedures
  • Participate in weekly chart rounds and other departmental meetings
  • Maintain all logs, including Refrigerator, Freezer, Blanket Warmer, Eye Wash Station, and Medication logs
  • Obtain authorizations for diagnostic tests and/or studies ordered by the physician
  • Assist with diagnosis codes under the general supervision of the physician
  • Assist with emergency cases after hours or on weekends as needed
  • Accurately document nursing observations, medications, treatments, and other care given
  • Serve as a backup support for the Oncology Nurse Navigator

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in radiation therapy or oncology nursing
  • Ability to understand, communicate, and react effectively to patient and family needs
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and maintain a calm and customer-focused demeanor
