About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join our team in the Cardiovascular Unit at Penn State Health. As a key member of our intensivist team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the delivery of exceptional outcomes.

Our 30-bed unit is dedicated to caring for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions, including those who have undergone cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, cardiology, interventional, and mechanical circulatory support. You will work closely with our intensivists and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care that meets the unique needs of each patient.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct critical care patient management, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Manage complex therapies such as IABP, Impella, VADs, ECMO, CRRT, respiratory ventilators, inotropes, vasopressors, and vasoactive intravenous medications.
  • Participate in daily rounds on patients during post-operative phases of care, perform assessments, and make medical management plan revisions in collaboration with physicians, consulted services, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Perform procedures including placement of arterial lines, central lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, removal of IABPs, chest tubes, and cardiac pacer wires.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the state of employment.
  • National certification in the state of employment or in another state with reciprocity and licensure to practice in the state of employment.
  • BLS certification.
