Position Overview

The General Maintenance Engineer is responsible for executing routine preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on buildings, industrial systems, and equipment. Under close supervision, this role involves assisting in the monitoring of building system operations and performance. The position requires proficiency in various trade skills, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, roofing, and HVAC systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts daily repairs, emergency interventions, and preventive maintenance tasks as assigned. Additional duties may be assigned by management.
  • Reviews and assesses work orders, estimating the time and materials necessary for repairs.
  • Assists in the installation and modification of building equipment systems.
  • Supports troubleshooting and repairs of plumbing systems, kitchen equipment, roofing, drainage, and HVAC systems.
  • Maintains lighting systems throughout the facility, including cleaning fixtures and replacing bulbs.
  • Performs carpentry tasks, furniture assembly, and locksmith duties as required.
  • Responds promptly to emergency situations, coordinating additional assistance as necessary.
  • Participates in a weekly on-call rotation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, with at least one year of relevant experience or training.
  • Ability to understand and interpret instructions, correspondence, and memos, with the capacity to ask clarifying questions for better comprehension. Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to follow general instructions and solve problems in standard situations, requiring basic analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with personal computers and/or PDAs for work order systems, email, and training, along with basic skills in Microsoft Office Outlook. Physical demands include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry loads of 50 lbs. or more.
