Senior Financial Analyst, Basic Science Departments

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Analyst to join our team in the Basic Science Departments. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of basic science departments and centers, and using data to drive analyses that inform decisions around financial goals, objectives, and performance.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate with Basic Science/Center departments to ensure two-way communication and create advocacy for the areas, knowledge transfer, and a shared understanding of financial activities.
- Support financial business activities, including developing school budgets, scenario planning, predictive analysis, financial modeling, variances, and forecasting.
- Obtain knowledge of Basic Science/Center departments and their financial activities through regular meetings and communications to determine how to advocate for the areas during conversations with JHM and JHU.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, scenario planning, long-range planning, financial modeling, variances, forecasting, projections, financial plans and reports, and other types of complex analysis, involving the review of significant amounts of data.
- Analyze financial activities to assist in the preparation of departmental and school budgets, planning, modeling, and reports. Provide recommendations to critical financial business decisions. Extract financial data from various accounting and information systems to perform related reviews.
- Manage the portfolio of Basic Science/Center departments and the completeness and accuracy of their financial activities.
- Advocate for Basic Science/Center departments to ensure they are receiving funding for their activities and can hire staff and faculty.
- Monitor financial metrics performance, develop models and reports, and ensure two-way communications with departments to determine the financial performance and if a corrective action plan is warranted.
- Ensure department administrators have the necessary information, skills, and support to perform their financial activities.
- Partner with Associate Director for Basic Science/Center departments, other FP&A analysts; SOM department directors, administrators, and staff; JHM/JHU Budget, Central Finance, JHM/JHHS/JHU Finance.
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field.
- Five years of progressively responsible financial and business operations experience, preferably in a large and complex organization.
- Advanced Excel skills, with demonstrated knowledge of Pivot tables, formulas and other functions, experience with other data reporting tools.
- Additional education (master's in a related field) may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Experience in research financial management and clinical department business operations.
- SAP accounting knowledge.
