The Referral Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating patient referrals by obtaining all necessary information, insurance verification, and authorization to ensure accurate and timely coordination of patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receives, tracks, and obtains insurance authorization from in-network and out-of-network insurance carriers
  • Initiates, tracks, and updates status of all referrals for patients in a timely manner
  • Communicates with healthcare teams and specialists regarding the referral process to ensure proper coordination of care
  • Submits prior authorizations for referrals as needed
  • Obtains medical records necessary for patient appointments
  • Contacts patients and referring physicians with referral insurance or benefit conflicts
  • Coordinates the referral process with outside organizations and specialists and notifies patients with referral information
  • Exhibits and manages excellent turn-around time to ensure timely referrals
  • Demonstrates flexibility to perform duties whenever volume deems it necessary
  • Documents activities appropriately
  • Complies with all HIPAA regulations
  • Serves as a backup to the Prior Authorization specialist as needed
  • Promotes a Culture of Safety by reporting hazards, errors, and potential patient safety issues

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience preferred but not required
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology a plus
