As a key member of the Legal team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the organization’s integrity. Your expertise in legal matters will be vital in identifying and mitigating risks while fostering a culture of compliance. You will be responsible for formulating company policies and representing the organization in legal proceedings, ensuring all commercial transactions adhere to legal standards.

The Senior Patent Agent/Attorney role is designed to minimize reliance on external legal counsel while supporting the Assistant General Counsel of Intellectual Property in managing the Company’s patent portfolio and driving innovation from engineering and design.

1. Evaluate invention disclosures for patentability.
2. Prepare and file new patent applications.
3. Manage patent prosecution before the US Patent and Trademark Office and coordinate with foreign associates for international applications.
4. Oversee the internal processes for executing and filing formal patent documents globally.
5. Manage outside counsel by reviewing and approving their work on various patent matters.
6. Supervise the company’s docketing practices and electronic filing systems.
7. Conduct patent and technology analysis, including prior art searches to inform R&D efforts.
8. Review the patent portfolio in collaboration with design, engineering, and business teams to develop strategic patent initiatives.
9. Oversee the patent prosecution budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
10. Facilitate the harvesting of inventions by engaging with R&D teams and documenting intellectual property.
11. Provide counsel to R&D and business units on patent-related issues and conduct training on patent processes.
12. Manage patent annuity processes and assess the value of patents.
13. Coordinate global patent strategies and collaborate with international teams.
14. Assess and enhance current processes to improve efficiency within the IP team.

• Hybrid work arrangement: initial 3 days onsite, transitioning to 1-2 days as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably mechanical) or a related field, with strong academic credentials.
• Registered patent agent or attorney with the USPTO.
• A minimum of five years of relevant experience in patent law.
• Proven experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
• Exceptional writing and research skills, along with strong verbal communication and organizational abilities.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.

The salary range for this position is $79,000.00 - $134,000.00 annually, based on education, experience, and internal equity.
