Position Overview

As a vital member of the Legal team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance and mitigating legal risks for the organization. Your expertise in law and ethics will guide the development of company policies and represent the organization in legal matters. You will provide legal counsel and ensure the legality of commercial transactions.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Patent Agent/Attorney role is essential for minimizing external legal expenses and assisting the Assistant General Counsel of Intellectual Property in managing the Company's patent portfolio while fostering innovation within Engineering and Industrial Design.

  1. Evaluate invention disclosures
  2. Prepare and file new priority patent applications
  3. Manage patent prosecution before the US Patent and Trademark Office and coordinate with foreign associates for international applications
  4. Oversee the internal processes for executing and filing formal documents globally
  5. Manage outside counsel, including reviewing and approving their work on various patent matters
  6. Supervise docketing and filing systems, ensuring efficient practices
  7. Conduct patent and technology analysis, including prior art searches
  8. Develop and manage patent portfolio strategies in collaboration with engineering and business teams
  9. Monitor and manage the patent prosecution budget effectively
  10. Facilitate invention harvesting through collaboration with R&D teams
  11. Provide guidance and training on patent processes to R&D and business units
  12. Oversee patent annuity management and associated activities
  13. Coordinate global patent strategies and meetings with international counterparts
  14. Assess and improve internal processes for efficiency within the IP team
Qualifications
  • Hybrid work arrangement: 3 days onsite initially, transitioning to 1-2 days as needed.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably mechanical) or a related field, with strong academic credentials.
  • Registered patent agent/attorney with the USPTO.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in patent law.
  • Proven experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Exceptional writing and research skills, along with strong organizational abilities.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
Compensation

The salary range for this position is $79,000.00-$134,000.00 annually, based on education, experience, and internal equity.
