Madison, Wisconsin, United States University of Wisconsin Full time

Position Overview:
The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) and the Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care, Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time faculty position at the professor, associate, or assistant level (CHS) in hematology, with an emphasis on classical (non-malignant) hematology.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to engage in research that may encompass health services or clinical trial studies.

The Division of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care at UW-Madison is comprised of 68 faculty members, 31 Advanced Practice Providers, and 16 Fellows, all contributing to pioneering research in both classical and malignant hematology, cellular therapy, cancer biology, cancer prevention and screening, and medical oncology.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will become part of a prestigious institution that promotes, values, and supports interdisciplinary research across basic, clinical, and population health domains, attracting scholars and students globally.

Madison, as the state capital, boasts a vibrant community with over 270,000 residents, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural activities, excellent educational institutions, and outdoor leisure options.

The role entails 60% direct patient care at designated medical facilities, including outpatient, inpatient, and consultative services, alongside efforts to enhance diversity in clinical trial participation. The remaining 40% of the role is dedicated to developing and teaching a research or educational program, along with engaging in scholarly activities.

Clinical responsibilities will primarily involve inpatient, consult, and outpatient care at designated hospital locations.

Responsibilities will also encompass clinical duties, research initiatives, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, and potentially engaging in outreach service activities.

The candidate will be expected to participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health, fostering collaborative relationships with fellow faculty members.

Direct patient care, leadership of specialized research teams, and access to significant programmatic research funding will be key components of this role.

The University of Wisconsin has established several notable classical hematology initiatives, including a comprehensive sickle cell disease program, a bleeding disorders program, and an inherited bone marrow failure program.

The sickle cell disease program is affiliated with the National Alliance of Sickle Cell Centers, and the university also hosts the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), supported by a National Institutes of Health Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA).

ICTR offers junior and mid-career faculty opportunities to develop research skills and mentorship. Additionally, the division holds a hematology-specific T32 training grant aimed at mentoring pre- and post-doctoral candidates in hematology research.

Collaboration opportunities exist with university colleagues through the Wisconsin Blood Cancer Research Institute (WBCRI) and the Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC).

Faculty members will have access to numerous shared resources and opportunities for collaboration with basic, translational, and clinical researchers at the NCI-designated UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC), the VA Hospital, and across the UW-Madison campus.

Administrative responsibilities may include e-Consults, committee participation, and community service, tailored to the interests of the successful candidate.

We value the contributions of every individual and recognize how their identity, culture, background, experience, status, abilities, and perspectives enrich our university community.
