About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled RF Researcher to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a member of our team, you will contribute to research that spans from computational modeling and optimization to prototyping and characterization of novel metasurfaces and intelligent structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, prototype, and fabricate novel metasurfaces and intelligent structures for manipulating RF fields.
  • Perform anechoic chamber measurements and devise RF testbeds to characterize the performance of electromagnetic prototypes.
  • Analyze data and propose design refinements.
  • Advance independent research and development ideas.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of physicists, engineers, and fabrication technicians.
Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Strong background in electromagnetic metasurfaces and microwave/RF components and circuits.
  • Proficiency in using full-wave electromagnetic simulation packages such as CST, HFSS, or COMSOL.
  • Working experience or interest in configuring and operating typical RF hardware equipment such as vector network analyzers (VNAs), antennas, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Interest in learning the procedures and protocols pertaining to the fabrication of RF metasurfaces.
  • Ability to write scientific programs in MATLAB or PYTHON.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in printed circuit board layout and fabrication.
  • Interest in building systems with RF components (e.g., mixers, amplifiers, filters, and detectors).
  • Previous contribution to the design of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces.
  • Broad exposure to common RF applications such as communications, radar, antenna design, and microwave imaging.
