Job Description

Job Summary:

The State Water Resources Control Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tribal Affairs Program Manager to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for developing and implementing statewide tribal engagement strategies, fostering positive government-to-government relationships, and ensuring equitable access to safe drinking water for Native American tribes and tribal communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement tribal engagement strategies to promote collaboration and mutual understanding between the State Water Board and Native American tribes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with tribal leaders, government officials, and other stakeholders to advance the State Water Board's mission and goals.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to tribal communities on water resource management and policy issues.
  • Collaborate with other State Water Board staff to develop and implement policies and programs that benefit tribal communities.
  • Represent the State Water Board at tribal meetings, conferences, and other events.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as public policy, environmental science, or tribal governance.
  • At least 5 years of experience in tribal affairs, government relations, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with tribal leaders and government officials.
  • Strong knowledge of tribal sovereignty, federal and state laws and regulations related to tribal affairs, and water resource management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time, exempt position based at the State Water Board's headquarters in Sacramento. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and may be required to travel to tribal communities and other locations throughout the state.
