Job Summary

Thompson River Lumber Co of MT, Inc. is seeking a skilled Saw Filer to join our team in the filing room. As a Saw Filer, you will be responsible for the daily maintenance and operation of band saws and other related equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on band saws and other equipment, including leveling, tensioning, and lubrication.
  • Saw Changes: Assist in changing saw blades and other consumable parts as needed.
  • Guide Grinding: Grind guides to ensure proper alignment and function.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues with equipment, including mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Filing Room Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized filing room, including the storage and organization of tools and supplies.
  • Sawing Station Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on sawing stations, including cleaning and lubrication.
  • Pouring Babbitt: Pour babbitt metal into saw guides as needed.
  • Grinding Knives: Grind saw blades and other knives to ensure proper function.
  • Assisting Other Filing Duties: Assist other saw filers with their duties as needed.
  • Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and safe working environment, including the filing room and surrounding areas.
Requirements
  • Physical Demands: The physical demands of this position include standing, walking, sitting, using hands to handle or feel objects, reaching with hands and arms, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, talking, and hearing. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Work Environment: The employee will be frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, noise levels can be moderate to high depending on the area of the mill.
  • Experience: Experience as a fitter or benchman is preferred, but we will consider training an individual with some relative experience. Relative experience might include previous work history in sawmill production, experience in an industrial tool room, or fabrication shops.
  • Attendance and Job Longevity: Great attendance and job longevity with previous work history is a must.
