Position Overview

This role is eligible for the UNC Hospitals Surgical Technologist Incentive Program, which offers a commitment incentive of up to $10,000, along with an employee referral program.

UNC Health Care is currently in search of a skilled Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room (OR) with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. We are looking for a collaborative individual with a positive demeanor to contribute to our surgical team. The Surgical Technologist will play a vital role in our multi-specialty facility.

Work Schedule

This position entails a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, operating Monday through Friday from 6 am to 6 pm, with no weekend or holiday shifts. A week-long orientation is required prior to unit-specific training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and uphold a sterile environment, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols.
  • Exhibit advanced knowledge of surgical instruments and techniques.
  • Prepare the Operating Room with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Conduct accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts as per established guidelines.
  • Provide care for a diverse patient population, from infants to the elderly.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, regulatory standards, and patient safety objectives.
  • Mentor and support new staff members, serving as a resource for less experienced Surgical Technologists.
  • Assist in Sterile Processing when required to ensure the availability of sterilized surgical instruments.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED, or
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing program, or
  • Completion of a Military Training Program in Surgical Technology.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Basic Life Support certification is mandatory.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in an Operating Room setting is required.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and priority-setting skills.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team player and mentor.
  • Knowledge of anatomy related to surgical procedures and instrumentation.
  • Capability to respond appropriately to critical situations.
