Job Description

Cayuga Health System is seeking a Nursing Student Extern to join our team. As a Nursing Student Extern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting, working alongside our experienced nursing staff.

The Clinical Student Externship is a training program designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in a clinical environment. You will have the opportunity to participate in patient care, learn from experienced nurses, and develop your critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and report vital signs, ambulation, and repositioning of patients as scheduled or as needed in a timely manner.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions of the patient to the appropriate RN.
  • Monitor and record intake and output of fluids and patient weights.
  • Participate in advanced clinical skills selected from the competency list as training is accomplished.
  • Intentionally round on each patient every hour to ensure the above responsibilities are complete and patient needs are met.

Requirements:

  • Active enrollment in a nursing program.
  • Clinical experience in applicable patient care program of study.
  • Not required to have a license or certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers.
  • Lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.).
  • Sitting, walking, or standing for long periods.

Location and Travel Requirements:

  • On-site at Cayuga Medical Center.

Pay Range Disclosure:

  • Standard rate of $19.50 per hour plus benefits.
