POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse is accountable for the independent oversight of care delivery to a designated group of residents within a nursing unit. Responsibilities include assessing resident needs, formulating personalized care plans, administering nursing interventions, evaluating care effectiveness, and supervising Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and other staff in the provision of nursing services.
Essential Qualifications
- Current and valid Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
- Recent clinical experience or specialized training in geriatric care.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing facility practices.
- Understanding of infection control standards and protocols.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through Continuing Education Credits.
- Effective communication skills with staff, residents, and families.
- Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn company-specific software.
- Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
- Compliance with local health regulations and successful completion of post-employment screenings, including drug tests and background checks.
The primary functions of the Registered Nurse include conducting thorough resident assessments in accordance with regulatory standards and ensuring that high-quality nursing care is delivered, focusing on positive outcomes through the nursing process. The RN will effectively engage with residents and their families to gather necessary information for care planning and implementation.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for identifying resident needs and contributing to discharge planning throughout the resident's stay. They will develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary care team, documenting issues, goals, and strategies accordingly.
Ongoing evaluation of the Plan of Care is essential, with the RN making necessary adjustments as needs arise. The RN will seek feedback from nursing colleagues, residents, and families to ensure that care objectives are being met.
Delivering and maintaining optimal resident care involves demonstrating knowledge of current nursing practices within the RN scope of practice, adhering to company policies, and ensuring accurate documentation of all medical records. The RN will respond promptly to resident needs and assist with call lights and other requests.
Supervision of Certified Nursing Assistants and other nursing staff is a key responsibility, including coaching and assigning tasks to ensure quality resident care.
Compassionate care and positive interactions with internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues and direct reports, are fundamental to this role.
This position is physically demanding and requires:
- Frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending, and lifting.
- The ability to work efficiently throughout the entire shift.
- Lifting or moving objects and residents weighing up to 40 pounds regularly, with the capability to assist in moving patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
- Dexterity to operate equipment and perform necessary tasks.
- Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and verbal communication.
- Ability to remain composed in emergency situations and manage multiple tasks effectively.
This role may involve long hours and frequent weekend shifts, as it is situated within a healthcare facility that operates 24/7, requiring flexibility for rotating shifts and holiday work.
