Position Overview: The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is responsible for delivering safe and effective anesthesia care within the defined scope of practice while adhering to clinical privileges sanctioned by the Medical Staff Office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure regular, consistent, and timely attendance on-site.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments and provide comprehensive patient care.
- Perform pre-operative and post-operative evaluations, documenting findings accurately in the anesthesia record.
- Reassess patients immediately prior to surgery, reviewing lab results and confirming all necessary consents and consultations are in order. Identification of the patient will be confirmed in the operating room by the surgical team.
- Induce and maintain appropriate levels of anesthesia tailored to each patient's needs.
- Continuously monitor patient status, adjusting the anesthetic plan as required.
- Implement infection control measures to minimize risks to patients.
- Interpret patient data to deliver personalized care.
- Equipment and Process Knowledge:
- Utilize time and resources efficiently.
- Verify that all anesthesia equipment is functioning properly, reporting any malfunctions to the Chief CRNA or Chief Anesthesiologist.
- Professional Conduct:
- Act as a clinical instructor for nursing students.
- Promptly report any abnormalities or concerns to the Medical Doctor Anesthetist (MDA) and the surgical team.
- Support the mission and standards of Excela Health and the Anesthesia Department.
- Exhibit knowledge of developmental principles across the lifespan, ensuring care is appropriate for all age groups.
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor, serving as a role model for nursing students.
- Engage in self-evaluation and strive for excellence in anesthesia practice.
- Respect and uphold patient rights, demonstrating compassion and dignity during anesthesia delivery.
Specialized Functions:
- Conduct and document pre-anesthetic assessments, including relevant lab values and clinical history.
- Demonstrate proficiency in administering various types of anesthesia, including general, regional, and sedation techniques.
- Select and apply appropriate monitoring techniques for ongoing evaluation of patient status.
- Facilitate smooth patient recovery from anesthesia, managing pain and side effects effectively.
- Respond to emergencies with airway management and administration of necessary fluids and medications.
- Ensure compliance with all documentation and billing requirements as per facility policies.
- Address any issues that may compromise patient safety immediately.
- Maintain a safe and professional work environment, reporting any violations promptly.
- Participate in departmental meetings and committees as required.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program and an AANA-approved anesthesia school.
- Current licensure to practice in the relevant state.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Active CRNA practicing status with ongoing education for recertification.
- Compliance with state regulations regarding advanced nursing practice in anesthesia.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degrees such as a Master of Science, Master of Health Science, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP).
