Position Overview:
The Civil Engineer is responsible for civil engineering planning and design, providing technical guidance to district personnel, commissioned architects, and consulting engineers regarding civil engineering design, while certifying design plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Offer advice and technical direction to commissioned architects and structural engineers, ensuring adherence to district policies for site development design, including grading, paving, fencing, parking layouts, streets, storm drains, and sewer systems.
  • Guide the Civil Engineering Unit in preparing school site designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Review plans and specifications from commissioned or consulting civil engineers for compliance with district policies and identify potential conflicts with other architectural and engineering elements, requesting necessary revisions.
  • Evaluate proposals from civil engineers regarding scope of work and fees, and review completed work to recommend payment or nonpayment of fees.
  • Establish and maintain civil engineering standards and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes and safety requirements, enhancing the quality and cost-effectiveness of construction, maintenance, and operations.
  • Conduct site development studies to assess the cost and feasibility of grading and utility improvements required for land acquisitions.
  • Advise contractors, commissioned architects, engineers, and district construction inspectors on civil engineering challenges encountered during construction.
  • Provide professional certification of civil engineering designs for assigned district and commissioned projects.
  • Conduct research and prepare reports on structural systems related to civil engineering components, installation methods, and associated costs, collaborating with district personnel and representatives from other public agencies.
  • Perform advanced civil engineering tasks within the unit.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Compensation:
$117,143,600.00

Qualifications:
Education:
  • High school graduation or equivalent educational proficiency.

Licenses:
  • Valid Professional Engineer license in Civil Engineering issued by the California State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
  • Valid California Driver License.
  • Access to an automobile.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds, navigate roofs, and safely move through partially completed buildings and crawl spaces.
